I have a PocketPC. Unfortunately, the make and model I have missing being supported by both Vista (bleh) and Win7. It's a bit dated, but I use it. I can't sync my outlook contacts (don't use outlook as email service, thankyouverymuchno) to my Win7 Phone or computer, so, keeping this device up and running is rather important for me. Well, a certain 'let me worm my way behind everything' feline *coughZiggycough* managed to unplug it, and I didn't notice. I lost everything that was on it. I checked my XP laptop out on the breakfast bar, and no back up there.

I took a deep breath, and dug out a rather antiquated Acer laptop (AcerClone) and ran active sync and selected "Restore". Oh thank heavens, it all restored. Right now I have the device on the breakfast bar laptop creating a new back up out there so I don't have to dig out the antiquated one.

Got more of the grunt work done on new computer. There is a theme to the names. AcerBeast, AcerClone, and now AcerChild. Child because it's faster than its' predecessors (parents). H.T. to hal spacejock for the link earlier to a faster way to get all the updates. Might share the file, not the link with the rest of the world. Gotta love torrents.

AcerClone isn't going to be junked, or even retired. It will still be used, but I will be calling around all the Acer parts/repair shops about getting it a new fan.

Just have a few more things to set up (screen saver, and a few more audio editing programs) and I should be good to go.

The setting up, the installing programs, the tweaking programs so they run the way you want, etc etc. Right now, it's installing all the Windoze updates. After this is done, I want to convert the FAT32 to NTFS. I have made sure that nothing put on the 'd' drive.

AcerClone's hotsink fan has been making some loud noises. Now I don't want a repeat of what happened with AcerBeast. IT was making loud noises, and then about 2 weeks later, the harddrive suffered a catastrophic failure, and I lost some pertinent data.

Went shopping around, looking for the best bargain, price and hardware I could get for the price range I was trying to stay in. And I found it. It is another Acer. Hey, I like them, the mainboards are great, and the architecture is fine. HDs fail, that's just part of computer ownership: you try to upgrade your harddrives ahead of their failures. Sometimes you manage, other times...eh.

I will be trying to find or fix the hotsink fan in AcerClone. And AcerBeast still works, as I am typing on it now. Will be finding a new home for it, so to speak.

Extensa 2000,2.8ghz Pent4 New 80 gig hd, 1.5 gigs ram, new DVDRW (Replaced the crappy Matshita drive that was originally installed),and new Battery. Original OEM discs and back ups. 'Relatively' cheap.

No matter what configuration I use, I can't AcerClone to accept anything over 768 megs of ram (with 64 allocated to video) even though supposedly I am able to use up to 2 gigs memory. I have tried a single 1 gig chip, and I get core memory dumps. I try two 512s and it won't read one of them at all, even though they are same make and model and speed. It will only read one 512 in bank 1 and a 256 in bank 2. This is frustrating when I am working with Photoshop, or any of my graphics programs. They really chew up memory, and even having a 2 gig swap/virtual memory space on the hd isn't helping.

AcerBeast can read all the chips, without a problem. I am betting it's a bios blip with AcerClone. And it's one that, sooner or later, I will end up trading AcerClone in over.

*sigh*

Stopped in at 'Netways' to see if Acerclone was sporting it's new harddrive and the bluetooth module. I was told the tech couldn't figure out how to put the module in, and that HighPoint hadn't gotten back to them. Umm ok.... so I came home, called Highpoint, was on the phone for about 5 minutes, and 'splained the situation..Gave Matthew the tech Netways phone number, and he contacted them and told them how. *sigh* So, it should be ready tomorrow.

I finally get to rest, sort of.

Helaciously busy weekend. Went to Hoddywell, and did the archery trail.3+hrs of walking up and down hills, with 16 targets at different angles and distances. Was lots of fun, and I shot pretty damned well (also the Damascus glove experiment worked wonderfully). I was pretty tapped out by the time we loaded everything back into the car and headed home.

Today, I needed the hydrotherapy pool. It took a full 30 minutes before I was moving in any semblance of a non robotic hominid. A few places went POP and SNAP. No crackle or that would have been breakfast.

Came home and rested, ate breakfast, and then noticed thyroxine was allllll gone.Got a 2nd wind, and loaded up bike, backpack and me, and headed down to the Kardinya shops. Also brought AcerClone to Netways to have the bluetooth module installed, and a bigger harddrive put in. Not going to wait for a full on harddrive crash like I did with AcerBeast.

Had some sashimi and a few sushi for lunch, and rode back home. To say I am exhausted is understatement.

P/T session today. Typical stretch/bend/twist/work with weights.

Got a bluetooth adaptor for AcerClone. Ordered it from "OFFICIAL ACER PARTS", and specifically asked them to pack instructions on how to put the thing in. What did the braintrusts there send me? TWO copies of the bill of sale. Fuqwits. After opening all the bays, and turning the computer over and trying to find some other way through to the innards, I called Netways and 'splained the situation. I was asked to bring it down. He had asked me if it was a USB and I told him twice, no, it was a module to be inserted in the computer, not in a port.

So, packed AcerClone into backpack, hopped onto my trusty e-bike, and pedaled my way to Netways. He was surprised that it was actually a module specifically for my Acer. He thought I was 'mistaken'. Typical of guys when talking to women on the phone. Yanno, I have ovaries and breasts, so how the hell would I know the difference between a module and a USB item. :p

After much dissassembling, we could not find (yes, we, I assisted much to his surprise, cuz I knew what I was doing) where the damned thing goes. So, I guess the scheduled replacement of the harddrive will happen sooner than later so I can have the blue tooth module put in at the same time.
