After a long discussion with the surgeon, then discussing it with both [livejournal.com profile] aikidomayland and Alan, we have decided the best course of action is surgical correction. I don't have a 'prolapsed' disc, but a displaced/slipped one, jutting out, putting pressure on the nerve. There is some calcification, which is why I am having the sharp radiating pain in my leg. The bright side of this is that since this is only the first problem I have had, it augers well for successful outcome. The disc is also too 'thin' between the vertebrae, and Dr N will be replacing the lost tissue with a plastic 'strut' to prevent any future back pain. Wish me lucks, peoples!

I survived the MRI. I never would have thought it would be so difficult to sit totally still for 15 minutes. I had to keep chanting to myself "The leg isn't really cramping, it's just the pressure on my spine telling me there is a cramp. Phantom, ghost." Orderly and nurse say I should be getting some more pain meds soon.

After a morphine induced good night of sleep, I woke up well rested for a change. I have to say, that if it wasn't for the serious back surgery thing, this hospital would be a great vacation place.

Spoke to Dr N. about what to expect tomorrow. Have begun Pre-Op fast an hour early. Yes, I am still a bit anxious about what to expect Medical jargon and other such stuff )
