'An Inconvenient Truth: A Global Warning'
Jan. 18th, 2007 04:47 pmI can see why the Petrochemical companies, and all the politicians and corporations with their hands in the pockets of these Petrochemical companies tried to discredit this movement by Mr. Al Gore, and to keep it out of their schools. Especially if the decriers are fundamentalists, republicans, or oil lobbyists.
With humor and seriousness, Mr. Gore delivers an expose that uses facts, not fiction or edited reports, to show the devastation being caused by increased CO2 and Global warming. And he shows what can actually be done, in spite of the Nay Sayers, and help solve the problem. It's not too late, but if we don't do something soon, it will be.
Ten Simple steps to help stop global warming
1: Change a light - Replacing one regular lightbulb with a compact fluorescent light will save 150 pounds of carbon dioxide a year. (all of ours are swapped with the energy efficient light bulbs)
2:Drive less - Walk, bike, carpool or take metro transit more often. You'll save one pound of Co2 for every mile you don't drive. (e-bike, and walk a lot)
3:Recycle more - You can save 2400 lbs of Co2 per year by recycling just half of your household waste. (we fill our recycle bin quicker than the rubbish bin)
4:Check your tires - Keeping your tires inflated properly can improe gas mileage by more than 3%. Every gallon of gasoline saved keeps 20 lbs of Co2 out of the atmosphere. (tires checked on weekly basis)
5:Use less hot water - It takes a lot of energy to heat water. Use less hot water by installing a low flow shower head (350 lbs of Co2 saved per year) and washing your clothes in warm or cold water (500 lbs of Co2 saved per year). ( I only use cold water, and have for years. Warm on rare occasion)
6: Avoid products with a lot of packaging - You can save 1200 lbs of Co2 if you cut your garbage down by 10% (doing this already, as I fill recycle bin before rubbish is full)
7: Adjust your thermostat - Moving your thermostat down just 2 degrees in winter and u 2 degrees in summer will save about 2000 lbs of Co2 per year. (no worry there, no central heating, but do use energy efficient portable heater and take it from room to room as needed)
8: Plant a tree - A single tree will absorb one tone of Co2 over its lifetime. (I have two I have planted so far, and pots for more)
9:Turn off electronic devices - Simply turning off your TV, DVD player, stereo, and computer when not using them will save thousands of pounds of Co2 per year. (again, done almost religiously)
10:Be Part of the Solution - Learn more and get active at ClimateCrisis.net (yup)
There are only two 'modern' countries that aren't following the Kyoto Accords. The US and Australia. The good news is that even though the Federal government isn't doing anything, cities and states in the US are doing it themselves.
Same thing with individual citizens and cities in Australia. Doesn't serve any purpose to wait until the governments make it mandatory.. by then it could be too late. Buy, borrow or rent "An Inconvenient Truth". Make up your own mind.
