anysia: (Ziggy)
Is an understatement.  Ziggy isn't allowed to roam free, but I do let her accompany me when I'm futzing around with my potted plants in the back yard.

She typically shadows me, meowing all the time as if announcing her presence to the world, and explores the back yard as I go along pruning, watering and feeding the plants.

When we came around to the gate area, Ziggy flopped down on a patch of sun-warmed bricks and started rolling around on them.  She was a little too close to the gate, and she ever so gently nudged it with her head. Of course, the metal gate rattled, startling her. She sprang to her feet, proceeded to inflate and dashed into the house.

I, of course, held off laughter until she was out of sight.

After I started a load of laundry, I started vacuuming. It's a good thing the washing machine have uneven load, and that Ziggy likes the back yard and didn't stray far.

Yes, Wing, you once again didn't close the screen door, and Ziggy yanked open the sliding glass door and headed out to parts unknown.. well, into the back yard.

Yowza is she loud when she meows.

Brought Ziggy outside to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine (she likes going out there but doesn't like the harness. But then she squalls just as much when we take it off. Silly moggie).

While I was out there, I decided to inspect the non working solar lawn lights. A whole bunch of them aren't working, so I brought out a screw driver, and my swiss army knife. I took some of them apart to inspect them. It seems that the one group have rechargeable coin batteries. No good, as the batteries would cost more to replace than the solar lights! Those shall be broken down for recycling. The others, their batteries were just old, and I think I was able to salvage 3 (maybe only 2, will have to wait for battery to charge up) out of the 4 of another group.

I will make a tally of how many come on tonight, and then decide on how many and which will be replaced.

We work our butts off getting caught up on yardwork.

Aikidomayland trimmed the bottle brush and Geraldton Wax tress, and when he get out of sight, I snuck out there and started hauling them to the 'pick up' area. After 8 arm loads I figured I had enough. He was most appreciative.

Then, we finally moved three of 'century plants'. Cut them from the main stock, and transplanted them to the front of the house between the roses, to fill it out, and to discourage anyone from getting too close to the windows. Between thorns, and stiff blades of the plants, it will do the job.

Yeah, this chore definitely was needed.

Welcome to what used to be the jungle )

Busy day

Even though I got up earlier than I wanted, I decided to put the day to good use. With the help of my Un-son, Robin, the back yard is cleaned out of debris/leaves now. Used them for bedding mulch.

Then after that, I got really domestic. Decided to bake some home made cookies. Chocolate chip cookies! )

While clearing out the weeds in the roses, I found two beautiful, hardy dark violet, Italian lavendar plants! Will be getting some potting soil, and pots and transplant them. Also, will have to get a few more trimmer line spools for my weedwacker.

It was a jungle out there. We had started ripping the weeds and overgrowth out of the yard last month, and yes, [livejournal.com profile] aikidomayland did hurt his arm,so was out of commission for 4 weeks. It doesn't look like you need a safari guide out there to get from the road to the house. *wince* But after 2 hrs and one full spool with the weedwacker, my hands are really hurtin'. Ran out of spool before I finished the back yard though. And it being a holiday (some silly Queen birthday.. I think they mean Brit, not Drag) none of the hardware/gardening shops are open, so I can't get another one.

Or something like that.  Spent part of the day with the weed wacker/trimmer/whipper snipper lowering the level of the grass around the driveway and front of house.  I am about 8 inches too tall for this damned garden tool, or it's too short depending on your POV. Had to quit on account of two things:  it started raining again, and my back was aching something fierce.

Break and shower time.. Oh to be a new shade of color.. clean!:)
