A little over 6 years ago, 6Apart shut down Vox Blogging (personally, I think they sold it to MSNBC, as now many of their journos are posting on Vox now). We were given the option to export to either TypePad or WordPress. Not taking any chances, I exported to both.

But before Vox shut down permanently for us mundane bloggers, I had my blog "Listening to the Voices in My Head" made into three books.

It wasn't vanity, but the nature of the internet. Things can vanish so quickly, disappear into the bitstream, never to be seen again. So, I had my Vox blog 'booked'. As luck would have it, shortly after all three volumes arrived, the people running the printing service had a falling out, and stopped production. I was one of the lucky ones who got her books.

I have been reading them, and it's a strange feeling. I find myself laughing at things I wrote... because it's funny. Every year I dutifully save my LJ blog as a PDF. Who knows what will be done with that. Seeing how expensive it was to print these three.. but then, this was a time sensitive rush order. Maybe one year at a time.

I just got an email from step father, one of those "LETS SHOW OBAMA WE ARE A CHRISTIAN NATION" pieces of crap. I replied concisely and politely, but firm.

Sorry, but the United States is not a "Christian Nation". Never has been. Just check the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. Not one mention of Jesus. Also, there is the matter of the Treaty of Tripoli, where it flat out states the US is NOT a Christian Nation.

Treaty of Tripoli:
Article 11
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

Repeating the lie that it is a "Christian Nation" over and over will not make it true.

The Founding fathers were secular Deists, not Christians. Yes, they graduated from 'seminaries', but way back then, seminaries were the only place higher education was available.

So sorry, this "Forwarded Email" stops here, I won't be passing it along.

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control issue of their currency, first by inflation, then deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around these banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power of currency should te taken away from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs" Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United States.

And I am watching history in the making.

Wow.

I booted up my old Toshiba Tecra, a whopping 120 mhz Pentium, laptop, just to see if it still worked. Surprised when it did! It was like opening a time capsule. I brought it with to Australia, and had it for a while when I was still living in the US.

I found old emails, chat logs, and other electronic conversations, some that were over 10 yrs old! It's amazing what has changed, or not changed, in the past 10+ or so years. Some people have vanished into the sunset, some have gone on to become not 'famous', but established. Some are still the same. Friends who even now I still keep in touch with even after all this time.

I look at a few of the items with a tinge of sadness, as a few have gone on and forgotten who was shoulder to cry on, or someone who promised, and kept that promise, to keep what was said in confidence. I have a rough draft of a book someone asked me to read. It's a novel now. Even have a script or two.

Good times and bad times, they are all on it. I think I will back up the entire drive to a few dvd single write discs and just archive it.

And acceptance speech.

Funny, I remember Shrub taking the same oath to defend the constitution and the laws of the country, not that he bothered to fulfill that oath.

I have a feeling Madam Speaker will uphold her oath of office.
