I laid into one that kept up with I HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS! only section of the 2nd amendment. Then he insulted me and my family's military service by saying 'probably the type to sign up for the paycheck'.

I let him have it.

Robert K**** Pookums, my DD214 says Honorable Discharge. And I am a multi generational military family. So, no, you sanctimonious git, none of us did it for a paycheck. I'm quite sure your military service can compare to mine? Or were your separated with a OTH or DD? Or maybe just a General discharge?

What we have said, oh so dense one, that they have no business in civilian hands, and should be banned as they are only designed to kill as many as possible in the most brutal way (the bullets penetrate and tumble, shredding internal organs, and in small targets like Sandy Hook, tear off body parts), just like the M-4 and M-16 (BTW, I ranked as a "Sharpshooter"). The only differences is the Bushmasters firing pin(semi-automatic rather than full auto), the sights, and a few parts on the stock. Again, it does NOT belong in any civilian hands.

You want to adhere to an 18th century rule, fine. Single action bolt, or how about a flint lock, as that was all the rage. And just what part of a 'well regulated militia' were you part of?

And you want to cite only PART of the 2nd amendment...

Here's all of it : "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

This was intended for Good Farmer Joseph with his Ball and Shot Musket, not Crazy Neighbor Joe with an AR-15 or an UZI. It was written when the U.S. didn't have a standing military. Guess what? Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard, Naval Reserves, and during times of war The Coast Guard. Good Farmer Joseph isn't required to take up arms to fight off invaders anymore.

Moving on....

I now cite a document that predates your tunnel vision view of the 2nd amendment:
"We hold these truths to be sacred and undeniable; that all men are created equal and independent, that from that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable, among which are the preservation of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness"

Our right to life outweighs your needing to feel the joy in your groin to shoot a military grade weapon. And if you really have such a hard on to do so, trot your North American Gunhumping Ammosexual ass to the nearest recruiters office and enlist.

“Evil is evil and will use the weaponry that is available.” Senator Cruz. Exactly! So, stop making guns readily available! All these mass shootings have been done with AR 15s and similar weapons that have NO business in civilian hands. They used to be banned, but thank GOP for letting that ban lapse. Ever since, the mass shootings have been increasing the body count.

People use Drunk Driving is illegal but it doesn't stop drunk driving. Red Herring/strawman argument. Drunk driving laws & penalties have reduced the number of drunk drivers/drunk driver fatalities. Just because it doesn't stop 100% of them doesn't mean those laws/penalties should be gotten rid of. Schooling, testing licensing, registration and insurance. If you have to have this for vehicles, which weren't specifically designed for killing things, then the same criteria needs to be applied for guns, which were specifically designed to kill things/people. Universal background checks. Closing the gun shows/private sale loopholes on background checks.

A lot of people are trying to claim it's a mental health issue. Not always. Sometimes it's an anger issue. Texas shooter was angry at his ex mother in law. Orlando shooter was angry about his own sexuality. One of the college shooters was angry that women kept saying no to him. Another was angry that his professor was failing him. Even it it was mental health, OTHER countries have mental health issues too, but they don't have mass murders with AR 15s or similar weapons. Why? Gun Control laws!

Even if it was mental health, then contact you Republican rep, as they are the ones that orchestrated removing the ban on people with mental illness history from buying guns.

"A well regulated militia".. that is the part that is ignored from the 2nd amendment, compliments of NRA propaganda. (go read up what Chief Justice Warren Burger said regarding the scam the NRA did regarding this) You want to be part of a militia? Head to a recruiters' office.

Australia used to have the same "Guns are part of our lives!" attitude. And the same weak gun laws that varied from state to state. ONE mass shooting, Port Arthur, in 1996 is all it took to change gun laws nationally. It wasn't easy, but it was done. And yes, the same complaints about "our rights!"... screw that, what about the rights of the people being slaughtered? "The right to LIFE, liberty and pursuit of happiness."

And before someone lays "You're just a gun hating libtard!" or othersuch...I enlisted and was in the Army. My DD214 says Honorable Discharge. I see no need to tote an AR 15 or ANY weapon into a McDonalds

If you make laws regarding guns, only law abiding gun owners would adhere to them. Criminal won't.

You can use this (non)logic in regards to any and all laws. Drunk driving is illegal, the majority of people follow the law. A few don't. Does that mean you strike the law from the books? No

Robbing banks is illegal. The majority of people don't rob banks. A few do. So, does that mean we removed the laws? No

Ban assault weapons, their manufacture, sale, and import. Require background checks, and close gunshow/online loopholes. If it takes you a few weeks to get your precious gun, fine as that required background checks will prevent someone with a history of mental illness or criminal background from purchasing one through legal channels.

Will a few that can't buy them legally have to spend a horrendous amount of money to smuggle them in? Probably, but that doesn't mean you don't ban them! Same applies to high capacity magazines.

The idea of not passing sensible gun reform laws just because a few won't obey is as ridiculous as making child pornography legal because a few won't obey the laws against it.

If after another mass shooting (no matter what political/social spin or 'reason' for said shootings) the first thing you do, is hold a '2nd Amendment Party' (ignoring the 'well regulated militia part yet again), you are part of the problem.

If the first thing you do is buy more guns, you are part of the problem.

If you all you do is offer thoughts and prayers instead of DOING something about assault weapons/universal background checks, you are part of the problem.

If you support politicians who want to deny health care to everyone but themselves, while voting down sensible gun reform, you are part of the problem.

The UK had a mass shooting at a school, killing dozens of children, and gun reform was passed by CONSERVATIVE government.

Australia had a mass shooting, killing dozens of people, and National gun reform was passed by a conservative government.

In the U.S., Assault Weapons ban enacted in 1994. The number of mass shootings drop.

8 years ago, the Assault Weapons ban allowed to lapse (Thanks GOP). And it's gotten to the point that there are more mass shootings in the U.S. than there are days of the year.

Just to name a few: 6 people shot and killed. Congresswoman Gabby Giffords critically injured...nothing done. Aurora Colorado, 12 people were killed and 70 others were injured. 20 babies and 6 adults slaughtered in Sandyhook Elementary School, CT.. nothing done. 33 dead at Virginia Tech.. nothing done. Charleston S.C., 9 people shot and killed.. nothing done. Planned Parenthood 12 shot, 3 dead. Now, San Bernadino shooting, 14 dead, 21 injured.. nothing done (with the notable exception of THIS one being called an act of terror, even when one done just a few days prior wasn't.).

All these shootings done with either assault weapons, high capacity ammo clips, and/or combination of both.

Correction, something was done. That ghoul, Wayne LaPierre from the NRA crawled out of the shadows and peddled more guns with catch phrases "Bad Guy with gun/Good Guy with a gun" (let's forget the two good guys with guns sitting in a diner who were shot and killed by bad guy with a gun.) NRA solution, add more guns to an overwhelming number of guns already out there. Rather like adding more whiskey to a drunk driving problem.

You want to use high powered assault weapons, trot your ass to a military recruiter.

You say you need it for protection, and you keep it in a gun safe? Sorry, it's not protection. This idiotic obsession with unregulated guns is deadly. This lust for assault weapons is insane. Do you really thing a Bushmaster is going to protect you from a tank or drone strike, or other military action? Do you really thing access to such a weapon will?

The days of when the 2nd amendment was needed is long past, and this amendment needs to be changed. Just like the amendment that allowed people to own other humans as slaves. And the amendment that gave women the right to vote. The amendment that got rid of the 3/5th of a person status for 'non-white' people.

Amendments can be and have been changed. The 2nd amendment is in desperate need of an overhaul that is long past due.

So, keep your thoughts and prayers, Governors, Senators, Representatives, and pull your thumbs out of your asses, and crowbar the NRA out of your wallets and decision making, and actually DO something about the problem.
