Hmm, well the L10 would definitely give you more room to grow. For the money though I'd be inclined to look at a Canon 400D or a Nikon D40 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos400d%2Cnikon_d40%2Cpanasonic_dmcfz50%2Cpanasonic_dmcl10&show=all). Yes, I'm a teensy bit of a camera snob. ;)

If I can get a 4.3 to 55mm adaptor ring so I can use the filter and lens kits... maybe.
The only drawback I see with the FZ50 is the built in Noise reduction. It fuzzes out fine details in lower light, and tends to make reds bleed in low light. There are many people petitioning/bugging/emailing Panasonic to update the firmware to get rid of the auto NR.
