I might take the Aussie governments' "We want to protect your family from bad naughty things on the internet" a bit more seriously if they did have ads that sound as if they were written by Dr Suess.

That being said, I don't really like the idea of the gov't deciding what is appropriate, that is up to the parents. There are simple things parents can do to lessen the chance of your child visiting an adult site. It's called "Supervision" . Don't allow your child to have a computer in his/her bedroom, no matter how much they whine about it. It's 'uncool'? Tough shit, you are the parent, they are the children, assert. Go into the room that has the computer unannounced and on irregular intervals. Check to see what your child is doing.

As much as I have no interest in adult sites, it's not up to the gov't to decide. That's called censorship.

have to agree with you on the parents being responsible for their own children thing. unfortunately, I remember what a sneaky little so-and-so I was, so I can only imagine that my kids are going to be the same. And any family where every kid has their own computer isn't using their money properly..

(sorry, babbling. hope all that makes sense)

My son didn't get 'his own' computer until he was 18. He bought it himself. Same applies as to when he was allowed to have it in his room.

And yes, most of that made sense. ;)
