Just goes to show that critics really need to get laid, or win a lottery, because there is a difference between critiquing something, and just tearing apart for the sake of being a sour puss.

I will admit, Pirates 3 is a better movie than Pirates 2: and here's why.

There was too much special FX with the 'seafood platter' on the actors in PotC2. Sure there was some story line but hey, it was the calamari that overwhelmed the picture.

PotC3 was much better.

Ding Dong, the Kraken's dead. Jacks' apparent insanity while in 'the locker' was funny. Gave new meaning to 'talking to oneself'. Great rescue.

Chow Yun Fat has a rather small, yet significant role. He died and then passed the captaincy to Elizabeth.

We see just how low Beckett was willing to go. I have to say that the murder of Gov. Swan was unexpected, but I did like seeing Norrington again, even though it was rather short. Giving his life so Elizabeth could get away. And his last act of defiance, skewering Jones when Jones asked him if he feared death. Guess not.

The meeting of the brethren was just what you would expect a bunch of squabbling pirates, who feel they are legends in their own minds, would be. Bickering, fighting, threats. Keith Richards as Sparrow Sr. was brilliant. Jack definitely takes after him. "How's mum?" Sparrow Sr. holds out shrunken head. Jack says "She looks good." after a nano second of egads.

They need one of them to be leader, but each captain has long standing history to vote for themselves. Jack once again does the unexpected. Votes for Elizabeth to be "King of the Brethren". Lots of ass kicking ensues. The Brethren bound goddess Calypso, the one who Jones loved and betrayed, into a mortal form, and voted to release her. This subplot works, and is needed for the fight between The Black Pearl, and the Dutchman.

I loved the Maelstrom scene. Yeah, special FX make it great, but it was never slow, dull, and kept pace. The fate of the Flying Dutchman with its' captain and crew are at stake.
This one had a lot more laughs, and entertainment value than the 2nd one did.

True this wasn't a movie with some deep social message, or hidden meaning. It was entertainment, and it was good. Go see it and have fun.

Did you stay for after the credits?

Spike said that Elizabeth was a pirate...she could have seen William a lot more than once every ten years...she just needed to know where The Flying Dutchman was surfacing. I told him there was no way...he'd end up like Davy Jones because it would be taking him away from his purpose.

I LOVED the Brethren scene. Very pirate like...and Jack's voting for Elizabeth was brilliant. I love to see how there is a method to his madness.

I also liked how they ended the movie...leaving it open for another if they so choose, but a perfect ending if they don't.

I definitely want to see more.

But even shift workers have some time off. William can only step on land every 10 years. There was nothing said about Elizabeth visiting him on the Dutchman. And with Elizabeth being 'pirate-ized', that wouldn't bother her in the slightest.

If Jones had returned to is job of ferrying souls before he started turning into talking calamari, he would have reverted to a form of less seafood. heh
