Reading info about Cat Haven
May. 20th, 2007 10:00 pmI went and read over the Cat Haven website. There is a donations page, that I think bears a bit of discussion.
Domestic Violence. Here is a quote from their page:
Domestic Violence Fund
Your donation to the "Domestic Violence" Fund helps provide refuge for cats at risk in situations where relationships have become violent or abusive. Unfortunately, we at Cat Haven have direct experience and know that pets are often the subject of attack by angry spouses and are tortured or killed. In fear of this, many women refuse to leave abusive relationships because they can't bring their cat with them into refuge accommodation. By helping us to provide emergency accommodation to protect a cat, you may save it's life. Your donation to this Fund may even save a woman from serious injury or death by allowing her to escape from a violent situation.
Will you help us to help them?
I wonder what the statistics are. I have found a few pages about people who threaten to injure or kill a pet as a method of intimidation, but nothing about where the victims of the abuse can take their pets before heading to a domestic violence shelter. Cat Haven is the first one I personally have seen that even offers this service.
