Common Courtesy
Oct. 14th, 2006 01:05 pmLike common sense, isn't so common.
Went shopping and pitstopped at "Spotlight" to get some fasteners, elastic and other items for armguards. They have this new policy of 'take a number' to be served. This very elderly but extremely polite woman asked for help because she could not lift the bolt of fabric. Clerk snottily told her to take a number, because she could NOT be served out of turn (small note, there was me and one other person waiting to purchase our selections) and rudely turned her back on the woman and called out "Number 16!". This poor woman couldn't even reach where the number tickets were. I handed her mine, and said "Here, you are now number 16." The clerk gave me a look like she was fit to kill. I just stared her down.
The elderly lady was most grateful, but that isn't why I did it. One day, when I am that old, I hope someone will be as courteous as I was if I need something. And I hope that the other woman who was so rude, also gets treated well, and then with some sense of shame, remember how she treated someone just like her those many years ago.
