Spinal therapy, first appointment
Feb. 15th, 2006 07:08 pmI had fun pacing in the waiting room, because I could not sit down. Receptionist was understanding, as she said she sees that a lot.
Doc glanced at my CAT scans, and read the labtech report. Seeing as it said it appeared to be a chronic problem that I had no symptoms or effects from, he decided to use manipulative therapy to start.
First, had me bend forward (hell no), backwards (howdy doc) and side to side (yelped when I tipped to the right). Examined back. Spine is straight, but with a bit of arching at the lower end, which is aggravating the situation. Stand on one foot, and raise up onto toes a few times, both feets. Right side weaker, but I already knew that.
Then it was up on the table time. Strong knees and foot joints. Yay. Little or no reflex response in left leg, bad. Lay face down, poke, prod find where it starts hurting. Had me lay on my left side, and did an amazing pull shoulder back/push hip forward. Great stretch, but nothing hurt.
Time for me to be on my right side. Same routine..oh @@#%$ ouch. Did it gently in repetitive way. Was told to stand up. Eh, I managed. Try to bend forward. Uhh no. Go back to table, and lay on right side again. Position legs and shoulders again, pushstretchpushstretch, three more times, asked to bend slowly forward each time but what I didn't know was he was watching how I was getting up off the table. I went from rolling onto belly and letting feet hit the floor, to 'weebling' up onto my butt and standing up. By the 5 push/stretching of shoulder and hip, I was able, with minimal pain, bend foward and reach my toes, even 'walked' my fingers off my feet onto the rug in front of my toes.
Doc is hopeful that this will be the best course of treatment. Sent me home with exercises to do three times a day, and I go back on Friday for another session.
