Spent a goodly part of the day at the Sunset Coast Archery range. Had a great shoot, even though I did manage to get a sunburn. Stayed in the shade and wore hat but that didn't seem to help. Think it was reflected sunlight from the cars about 10 ft away in parking area. I wear a tanktop/singlet because of the way my arm doesn't quite straighten (accident long ago) so I have to make sure my arm isn't going to get thwacked by my bowstring. So my shoulders are a bit red.

Decided to get membership at the range. Since [livejournal.com profile] aikidomayland worked so hard on the custom arrows, and the beautiful quivers (nothing says love than a man that makes something for you exactly as you ask) and the new bows we are getting. I really like this archery club. No constant snide remarks like at the old one: "You would shoot so much better if you got some real  equipment" in regards to us not having stablisers and sights and other bells and whistles. This club has welcomed and encouraged out bare bow usage (and have said we are the best barebow shooters they have seen in a while too)

Went to Foo Gwai for lunch. We sacrificed a porkbun in honor of [livejournal.com profile] akire_yta yet again. One of these days we will have to take her there again, hopefully after a good archery session. Both [livejournal.com profile] aikidomayland andI were surprised how quickly we noshed through our choices.

I learned when bare bow was still common, only the high end gear and actual bow hunters. I don't remember seeing any more complicated than the simple arm-and-stick style, except on hunting bows. Stabilisers weren't until later, except a very few pros were messing about with them. It was still fun without the fancy stuff, although it can be helpful for competition or actual hunting.

Was the sky hazy that day? Even a light overcast will give a lot of scattered UV, making shade a place where it's cooler but still able to burn you.

Way cool. But I guess you can understand why we bailed on the first Archery club. We enjoy shooting barebow. One of the tricked out bow shooters was very complimentary of how well [livejournal.com profile] aikidomayland was doing with his Mongolian horse bow.

As for the sunburn:It was cool and cloudy, not just hazy, but I think same thing applies. The sunburning has no rhyme or reason (ie back of arm, not front, back of neck and 'necklace' of sunburn but none further down exposed skin.) It's already changing to me normal injun colors.:)
