After the US paid for the infrastructure and spent years developing it, other countries are crying 'You got it set up and running nicely,  so now we want to control it!'

This irks me on many levels. After most of the hard work, developement, fine tuning, and getting it running right, now the rest of the world wants to jump in. I hope the US doesn't back down on this. I really do. I have mental image of what happened to the Bell Telephone company being forced to break up into smaller companies, controlled by different methods, with flowery promises of better service and lower bills happening to the internet on a global scale. Bullshit... service went out the window, and phonebills skyrocketed.

With the way China filters even basic news, can you imagine what they would do with the free flow of information? Cuba, Iran, to name a few more, that like to keep information away from citizens too, controlling the 'net? I don't think so.

Not really. The US invented TCP/IP, made the internet from darpa, but other non US developpers where also involved in other aspects of the internet, like CERN who developped http and the web. Next to that, we have ICAN which should be international, but which is in the hands of the US department of commerce. This has consequences: a tld like xxx is not liked by the fundamentalist us government, zo it is blocked, and no other countries can do anything about it. It is frightening that this us government can exert this power over what is nowadays an international network. You say you're afraid of cuba and china contorlling the net, and rightly so, but I do not place much trust in the US either.

I don't trust the current Regime in charge now, but when it comes to information,if you know where to look and are intelligent enough to discern FAUX news with real news, there is complete public access to it in the US. I have yet to find another country that allows that much free access to information. I sure don't want to see it choked off.

I guess it's no accident that FAUX news and FOX news are so similar..
