anysiaIf asked is it worth the extra $20 to get the platinum extended edition over the 1st released version, I would say yes. Was it as good as the first LoTRs extended edition? Depends on what you expected. Some of the storylines that were in the movie were fleshed out a bit, and made some of the scenes that were seen in the theater release a bit less chop and change, and also gave some explanations to certain questions. The Plight of Merry and Pippin was a bit more detailed too. Fangorn forest, the trip to Helms Deep, and many other scenes were good additions to see.
I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed in the 2 Appendices discs. They, to me, seemed just to be a rehash of the first extended edition, a redux, rather than something different. Not all of it was a disappointment, but it was a bit lackluster than what I had expected.
