It's a pity that LJ ditched the invite codes.  I think the reason for the suddenness of spam, and other useless postings is because any jerk with a hotmail account, or shit stirrer can just make a free account now.  Seems to have been a better method before.

On the upside it allowed Ken to get a lj instead of having to pay for one or find someone that had a code .

Knowing how tight he can be and the lack of funds we have now , having a free account has been good so far for him(not that he has written many entries or posted many comments)

To counter that, I get 12 invite codes a year because I am paid member. I had quite a few to hand out when LJ decided to go free to the world. Gave you one, would have had no problem handing em out to others I know.
