Ok.. why this sudden elevation/concern about flag burning?

The HoR is making a big stink about flag burning again. Calling it 'decrecration'. 

Forgive my pagany ignorance, but isn't elevating a piece of cloth to such a revered level break that commandment about worshiping idols/icons/grave images?  Why aren't the religious right riled up about this diefying of a flag?  It's not the fabric, it's the ideals (which have been blatantly ignored by the current political regime) which are important.
