The opposite of a 'fair weather friend'.

After a nifty long conversation with a dear friend, we were rehashing some stuff and people from long ago.  One person really stood out.  This person, when life was putting her on a shit list, and really dumping her down, I (and a few others) was there to talk to. Phone calls, emails, letters. But when things started going well, I was gradually shunted into the background, and then ignored. I wasn't the only one this was done to.

It's kind of sad.

Actually you could look at it as a good measure of your own worth as a confidant and shoulder to lean on. Wish her well and let her go, she probably doesn't even realize that she's dropped you out of her picture since she doesn't need your support now.

This happened some time ago,and the reason the conversation brought it up is another friend, who is thrilled of the opportunities and successes I have recently had, was a bit worried I would do to her what this other friend had done to us. Told her (and I quote) "I moved half a world away and I didn't forget you, did I?"
