Wow... just wow.

Just got back from one of the most spectacular concerts I have been to in a very long time.

Eagles, their first stop in the Australia leg of the  Farewell Tour I ("Hey, we have to call it something"  Glen Frey).  It was a threatening sky but all it did was drizzle a few times. No where near enough to take the shine off the event.

House lights dimmed and the whole place could hear the distinctive clapping of drumsticks.  TAK TAK TAK, and they opened with "In the Long Run".  And it only got better from there. Even after 30 yrs, their musicality, harmonies and instrument playing was 2nd to none.  Joe Walsh can make a guitar sing like none other (ok, maybe Carlos Santana). After a few songs were played, and enthusiastically cheered for, it started drizzling.  Glen Frey, who just loves (not) outdoor concerts, made light of it several times. "I was feeling pretty good there when you all started screaming after we did those two songs...then I realised it was because of the rain."  The rain kept the stage crew very bush with towels drying off everything as fast as they could.  "My favorite combination...water and electricty." "This is Canadian Beach weather" was another Frey quip.  Wing really liked Freys nickname for his exwife.."The Plaintiff".

We also got to hear a new song by Joe Walsh, its' debut! And we got to hear another new song by the Eagles, about 9/11 "A Hole in the World".

And BONUS! Just after the intermission, we were asked if we would mind moving our seats up closer to the stage, with an unobstructed view! Didn't have to ask us twice!  We went from the "gold seating" which was damned good, to "Holy shit I can see the buttons on their shirts!" row for the next 2 hours!

It was 3+ hours of excellent music and showmanship.  And...no lip-syncing!  So shove off all you posers and duffers!  Three encores later,(Glen and Don decided since we the audience braved the weather to be there, they would do a few extra sets) they closed with Hotel California,  Desperado, and Taking it Easy.  Three encores of real talented musicians and music. And Wing wasn't satisfied!  He wanted More More More!  (So did I,but I know how tireing performing can be.)

After 30 years, they still have it.  Showmen, musicians.. all the above.

cool :) what great luck to get moved to the gold seating :)

Hotel California is a great song for karaoke too. Not all songs ahead that level of greatness :)
