Former President Ronald Reagan has passed away. I am not one for speaking ill of the dead, but I do get a bit miffed at rabid republicans that extol on all his virtues while I remember the blunders and his Reagan-omics that left many people who weren't well off upper middle class or rich struggling to survive and make ends meet.

I remember an administration that welcomed an attempt to overturn Roe vs Wade. (a couple of times)

I remember the Equal Rights Amendment being shot down time and time again. (for the younger readers, it was an amendment that women get equal pay for the same job for a start, and other things that would prevent women from being treated like 2nd class citizens)

I remember an administration that increased the national debt at one of the highest rates in US history.

I remember an administration turning a blind eye to the poverty in its own back yard, while lending billions yet again to Mexico (and other loan defaulting countries) at the taxpayer expenses.

I saw new tax loopholes for the rich made, so that lower earners had to pick up the slack.

I remember an administration that again and again vetoed a minimum wage increase for the working poor, but then cut exemptions on their tax returns...

Hey anyone remember the Iran/Contra and the willing scapegoat Colonel Oliver North? Gee, let's not forget that. (I still say that if Reagan had stood up and said "I would have made a deal with the Devil to get our people home" I would have first in line to applaud him for it..might not like the gun trading, but hey, he wanted US citizens brought home. But alas no "I have no clear recollection" was his catch phrase, and everyone else involved, other than the willing Scapegoat, suddenly developed amnesia too)

I do sympathise with his family for their loss, but Reagan was not a Saviour of the US... Not by a longshot. (sorry Bry.. but I am not a democrat, I am what both parties hate.. and Indendent with a brain)

I was in primary school when Reagan was in power , so I can't really remember anything of what happened during his reign and my parents never talked about Reagan .

I think my parents were very anti American back then and now they are still kind of anti American , even though they've been to America a few times now .

Maybe my parents have mellowed in the 50's *shrugs* .

In the 20's of life seems to be the time when I seem to care more about what is going on around like idiot presidents .

I find it amusing how the politicos are reacting over here in 'Merica. The Democrats are suddenly praising Reagan as the Great Communicator, etc., etc., when back in the day the parties were bitterly divided. And the Republicans are trying to canonize Ronnie..oh, wait, they've been trying to do that for decades.

Me, I grew up in a working- and lower middle-class extended family. I was pretty young and not really politically aware during the Reagan admin, but I do remember during those years that my family got the shit end of the stick.

Too bad for his family, but I really couldn't care less that the man is dead.
