Interesting, those comments on the cnn page from americans finding this a big waste of money. How much is the iraq war costing? And how usefull has that been?
Not necessarilly. Depending on the size of the black hole or strangelet that might have been created, (and the accuracy of our theoretical models regarding rate of absorbtion vs. rate of evaporation of same) it would be years before we actually saw any sign of our impending doom.
Plus the media actually dont read CERN press releases. All they did yesterday was send a proton beam successfully around the loop. Basically people have been doing that since the 1960s.
Next week (ish) is the actual collision/experiment and the fun begins.
