I don't think it does go back into archive, and I also do not think it covers anything hidden by an LJ cut, because I did a word count when it was just the top 30 words, and some of the key ones there did not even show up (and they had about 80 instances) in the 100-word count, where some of the lower words only happen 8 or 9 times.
