After a reboot last night, my upper screen resolutions vanished. I went through the hunt for reasons why (driver, up to date, proper cable etc) and I even updated the BIOS, to no avail.

So, I did it the round about way. Went into the Intel Graphics menu, and created a custom resolution profile. Windows complains about it (but it used to be the recommended resolution before the mysterious vanishing) but it works just fine.

Nerdz Rool.

Waiting to hear back from Stephen I. as to when the courier will be here to pick the computer up.

Then I realized just how spoiled I was with the huge screen. After squinting for about an hour, I rummaged up Alan's old flat screen. Might only be 800x600 but at least my eyes don't want to bleed.

Well, I guess I should be thankful that I didn't get rid of the alto laptop stand.

To the point I am comfortable having the Acer Tech Support Courier pick up "Cheetah" for a Chipset refit.

My only problem is that I don't know if it's just going to be a chipset replacement, or machine replacement. If it's a machine replacement, many of my programs will have to be re-registered due to the computer having a different machine ID. I have emailed certain software vendors about this and only one has gotten back to me. I will 'remind' them again the day before Cheetah is picked up.

I'm not surprised, but it seems that it was Vista that was causing all the overheating issues and other massive problems with this computer.

Since I have been typing on a full sized keyboard, it's strange to be typing on laptop again. The action is a lot different.

Well, here's hoping Cheetah gets the refit and all will be well.

Called DiscWorld to get a quote on resetting to factory defaults, thereby wiping the hard drive of programs I installed, copying that to a NEW hd, then upgrading to Win7 64.

The reason for all the steps are the legalities. Would be easier to just put in a new hard drive, but alas, no, have to do it this way.

I have been having a problem with my Acer overheating and shutting down. Vents are clear, not blocked. I used canned air to make sure no dust or dander from our three cats and assorted flotsam was gumming up the works, and even have a small clip on desk fan circulating air to keep it cooled off, as core 2 duos can run a bit hot.

But after 3 shutdowns, I decided to hobble my machine. I set both CPUs to run at only 80%. Yes, it has slowed my system down a bit, but if you figure how much time I was losing because of the shutdowns (no warning, just faded to black and then off) and had to reboot and restart whatever I was doing, it's not that big a price to pay... I hope.

And of course, my XP laptop has decided to lock up when starting some programs. *sigh* Running NOD32 scan on it now.
