anysiaLast nights dinner guest, Chris, was a wonderful person to have over. Wing and I wowed him with our culinary skills (he was happy to find out that all of Wings' bragging about my talents in the kitchen wasn't just empty words). Served us wine, but Chris doesn't drink, so served him chilled apple juice in wine glass. I told him this was to make guest comfortable and not feel 'left out' during toasts.
We found out that all three of us have a lot in common, including but limited to: Archery, swords, armor, medieval recreations, humor, company...and it's a pity Wing waited so long to pass invite along to Chris. You see, he is leaving and will be gone for 3 years. He is headed to a bible college in Singapore and will be under an intense work/study load. I have great respect for someone who has a calling such as his. He wants to be a pastor, and I have a feeling he will be a good one.
He was amazed to find out the scope of my interests, knowledge and abilities. He told Wing he was quite lucky (and yes, agree with his assessment but didn't have to say that, Wing did it for me:)) And Chris passed the ultimate test of "goodness of human"... Affy decided to come and flop on him, demand to be pet, and purred.
I gave him a small personalised goodbye letter, and it almost reduced him to tears. That was not my intention, but he said it was just that touched about it. He said "You're a poet." and I said "Yes, its one of my many bad habits." He got a laugh out of that, and said he will keep it always. I have a feeling he will too.
Several hours later, we said our "See you in 3 years." (He will be coming back here to minister) , and it turns out we might end up seeing him once more before he goes. (chuckle) He left his umbrella at the office (Wing and he were co-workers) so it will be brought here for retrieval. It's just a shame Wing procrastinated so long on giving Chris an invite to come over for socalising, but as Chris said "We did it now, and will do so again."
Finding a person like this is rare, and he will be missed by Wing, quite alot. And now, he will also be missed by me.
