Health Minister Tony Abbot has said the vaccine for the Papilloma virus, that causes cervical cancer, isn't 'cost effective'. Gee, I am sure those 400 or so women in Australia that die of cervical cancer are thrilled to hear that.

I honestly believe if it had been a vaccine to prevent testicular cancer, it would have been on the pharmaceutical subsidy scheme already

Likely you are correct. I remember th cost per dose as being several hundred US dollars, which is expensive but likely to drop over time. And the cost of treating a few of those who do get cancer, if they have any sort of government provided health coverage, will be thousands of times greater than a dose of vaccine.

Not to mention the ethical issue of preventing an avoidable death. Perhaps, if Mr Abbot resembles recent appointees here, if the woman point out that dead women don't get pregnant, a "save the fetuses" campaign could be started to insure funding.
