How I turned a simple DSE Webcam
Aug. 2nd, 2005 10:12 pmInto a CCD camera for a telescope.
WARNING doing this does void the warranty!
I bought an inexpensive, no microphone, webcam and a Mogg Adaptor.
I removed the base,

and then removed the screw from the back

With a small screwdriver, I gently (and I mean gently) pried the two halves of the casing apart.

I carefully removed the chipboard with lens attached.

Carefully loosened the lense (it unscrews)

And removed it

I reinserted the camera chip and pressed the casing back together

I then threaded in the adaptor until snug (do not overtighten).

Put the Base back on

And replaced the screw.

And there you have it. Might not be a Starlight, but it will help just about any astronomy buff that hasn't saved enough pennies for a starlight to still get some decent pictures.
Now, I just have to wait for clear weather to give it a try!
