Insanity is the norm, and laws run amok
Dec. 8th, 2003 05:45 amWho protects the protectors?
Crime being committed, police officers halting the crime. Criminal behind wheel of stolen SUV tries to run over one of the officers. Officer draws service weapon, fires at (for all intents and purposes) a deadly vehicular weapon, injures driver of the stolen vehicle. Criminal caught, treated, charged. Due to the joy and wonders of plea barganing, all but the theft charges are dropped.
Officer investigated, and cleared of any wrongdoing, that he acted in accordance to prevent his own death, or injury to others.
Two years later: Criminal called before a group called "Police Integrity Commission" which can force people to give evidence, and because of these secret meetings, the officer is charged with wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm and firing a gun likely to endanger the lives of others, and faces 25 yr jail sentence.
I guess the pillow biting jackasses that thought this doozie up feel the thief should have run over the officer, killed him, then plea bargain down to a lesser crime, then get out jail in 8 yrs to do more crime?
Yes, there are police that abuse their authority, and then bully and abuse the people they are sworn to protect. But if good police officers can be sent to jail for preventing their own deaths, what next? It's bad enough that life guards have been sued by the people they have rescued, but now police can be sent to jail for doing what they were trained to do? Jailed for preventing their own murders?
The inmates are definitely running the asylum.
