SYDNEY, Australia (CNN) -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard warned Wednesday that he had received intelligence information about a specific terror threat to his country, though he refused to divulge details of the threat, citing security concerns.

At a nationally televised news conference in the capital of Canberra, Howard said releasing details of the threat would compromise security concerns.

"I don't want to overstate the situation, but I don't want to understate it," he added

You can find more of this blathering on just about every news site on the net. Supposedly there is this specific threat, but not gonna say where, why, how, etc etc so people can be safe?  Does this sound like trying to justify the fiasco in Iraq and being the buttbuddy of that walking catastrophe, Bush?  Security concerns? What about POPULATION concerns? Does this fool think that if people KNOW that someone (example here) is planned to blow up an airport, they wouldn't prefer to know and to stay away?  Bushism is a disease and I think it's highly contagious. >:(

Yeah, I was reading that in the news earlier.

Yeah, but McCarthy is recent, the earlier Red Scare made use of the technique too. You saw it during the Münster Rebellion, when Jan van Leiden used it rather successfully. Roman emperors did the same trick. And the people keep falling for it.

Do you think my dressing in a 7 ft robot suit, yelling "DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!!!! will wake anyone up? This is frightening and all I can see and remember is that young brazilian visiting England, shot dead, because he didn't understand what was being said to him.

It sure is sounding like in the States with Patriot and its renewal. One hopes that there's a strong push to sunset any such laws, as a Plan B to simply opposing them.

And I hope a ;ot of people start asking "if you know of this treat right now, why don't you deal with it, why do you need extra laws?"

And start a rumor that the laws will restrict the sale of beer.
