When aikidomayland and I drove to Wembly yesterday, I took a photograph of the riverside of King's Park.

Just a few days prior, this was a lush green hillside. This is the result of one f&&king firebug. Warning to those on Dial up, full sized image is 1 meg, but you can see the details of the devastation. :(

I remember driving past there while the hill was still smouldering. It was kinda scary. Police cars had blocked off access to the eastbound roadway, and the plumes of smoke were visible from our house (Karrinyup).

I am always deeply saddened when I hear that yet another id10t has sparked up Kings Park.

Nah it will come back a lot faster than that. Their main problem is a lot of the introduced natives or the bigger trees were pretty cooked so it will take the park a few years to culture more and get them going.

The smaller stuff (provided it doesn't get burnt again)will be fine in 1-2 years. Even now with the cooler nights and the rain, some of that stuff will be breaking out new buds.

It's the escarpment they are worried about. According to the workers, it took 10 yrs to get it safe. And they are back to square one. And they didn't say 15 yrs, they said up to 15 yrs to get it back the way it was.

Being closer to the ocean, you lucked out and missed the choking smoke. I was wheezing for days.
