'Miraculous' landing in frigid Hudson

Passengers scrambled to get off a sinking jetliner today after it went down with more than 150 people on board in New York's Hudson River. All passengers are believed to have escaped from the US Airways jet, which was en route to Charlotte.

The pilots angled the plane so it belly flopped and then slid along the top of the water. Hydroplaned, and no pun intended. From what I have read, minor injuries only, and all passengers have gotten out.

AMEN

Yes.. if he has tried for an airport he might have crashed into buildings and houses. That's what you call fast thinking.

having a look at the locations of the airports, I am wondering why the pilot chose to drop the plane in the water. The airport he took off from is about the same distance as the water landing point, and a significant distance away from the other airport he said he was going to attempt.

*shrug*

That said, good piece of work to cleanly land a plane on water.

He didn't have the altitude, he would have plowed into buildings.

have also since discovered that the alternate airport was 'small'. So, he was then, somewhat limited in his choice. More limited than I originally thought.

I would say it was not miraculous, but Good Training and Mad Skillz!
