This man, Rep Mark Foley, is a sexual predator. He likes young men, very young men (not to be mistaken with liking little boys). He has been sending sexually explicit IMs and emails, and making arrangements for trysts with said young men.
Does he get arrested? Cuffed, dragged to the police station to get fingerprinted? Oh hell no! He checks himself into an alcohol treatment center. I wonder how many other sexual predators, attempted 'statutory rapists', out there, NOT under the Bush/GOP Teflon umbrella get such gentle treatment?
On an aside..does anyone actually trust the GOPs' ability to 'pick a new candidate to replace Foley"? It's not like they have been doing a bang up job of it.

Date: 2006-10-03 05:56 am (UTC)In cases where there was no actual contact and no record of physical contact, it's not too uncommon for there not to be an arrest and jail haulage; the more so if the offender is not considered a flight risk.
There's more there than has gotten coverage. He folded too quickly, he's gone into treatment to either try to dampen the public uproar or to remove himself from contact with the press and others, maybe even to protect himself. If there's more to be uncovered it may be on him, maybe on others. If it drags in others then, beyond anger at the 'family values' crowd, I will really worry.
