Brown pads his resume, Chertoff does know or care, Bush distancing himself, and the wholesale incompetence of the gov't.
Yes, local gov't is responsible, but they did officially ask for assistance before the hurricane hit, and Dubya signed off on it. But most of it never materialised. And when it did it was woefully inadequate, and poorly thought out. In some cases, people who were trying to leave were turned back.
Then it was lets blame the poor people that A:didn't have a car, B:didn't have money, or C: didn't have anywhere to go for the lousy response times of the 'relief effort'. Oh, lets do it one better, and fine the ones that stayed behind. That's right, charge them more money they don't have for staying where they did because of lack of options. That's right up there with the inflatable dartboard.
Right now, these milkfed, manicured mouthpieces (Hey Scott, I mean YOU)have got to stop dodging questions. If any of them had stood up and said "We f*cked up." I would have had a helluva lot more respect for them, even with the fuckups. However, they are spending more time and effort on a "Cover Our Asses" campaign than they are fixing the problems! IF only they used this much energy and imagination to take care of our own citizens... ah as my grandmother used to say "Wish in one hand, shit in the other.. see which one fills up faster."
The amazing part is how the "We the people" are pulling together and helping out Katrina struck citizens faster, and in greater numbers than the Feds did in equal amount of time. Food, clothing, shelter, jobs, all being offered by We the People.
I think that is one of the major problems with the Gov't today. It has forgotten that they are there to serve We The People, not the other way around. We The People are not supposed to go up to them with the empty bowl, begging for scraps or more food. They are accountable for their gross dereliction of duty, and failure to provide adequate and timely care for We the People. Now, We the People are righteously pissed off.
